General Class Info

Listed below is information that current and future students need to know about Betty Stevens.

Theory items you will need:
  • Pen
  • Pencil
  • Highlighter
  • Loose Leaf Notebook with paper
  • 4″ x 6″ Spiral Bound Index Cards (Flip Chart)
Uniforms:
  • White Cotton/Polyester Blend (No Logos)
  • Lab Coats – knee length, anything shorter is unacceptable.
  • Make sure you can move your arms freely. Your arms will be raised while performing certain tasks, i.e. haircutting and styling.
    Pants/Skirt-White, skirts must be below the knee.
  • Shoes – Solid construction such as leather, no nylon and if any color very little. Can be clogs, lace, or slip-on but entire toe of shoe must be solid.
    White hosiery or socks must be worn.
  • Undergarments – All undergarments must be white. No logos or colors.
Jewelry and Hair:
  • Gold, Silver, or White ONLY.
  • Long hair must be pulled away from face. Any ornamentation in hair must match hair color or can be gold, silver, or white. Nothing ostentatious.
  • Rings may be worn only on ring finger.
  • No bracelets.
  • Earrings must be smaller that the size of a quarter.
Parking:
  • Students may park in the back of the building or on the very outside edge of the parking lot. No parking next to the building. You may park on the street side of the Rainbow Square Parking area. Nail students may park in the parking lot after other businesses have closed at 6:00 p.m.
Description of Courses

The Cosmetology Course is a 1500 hour course of study providing instruction, demonstration and training in hair styles, hair shaping, hair coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair and scalp care, manicuring, esthetics, and make-up, as well as safety and sanitary procedures.

The Esthetics Course is a 450 hour course of study providing instruction, demonstration, and training in skin care, facial treatments, and make-up design, as well as safety and sanitary procedures. This course is offered when instructors are available.

The Manicure Course is a 300 hour course of study providing instruction, demonstration and training in manicuring, pedicuring, and artificial nails, as well as safety and sanitary procedures. This course is offered when instructors are available.

The Student Teacher Course is an additional 750 hour course of study providing instruction, demonstration, and training in lesson planning, lectures, school management, and record-keeping, as well as safety and sanitary procedures. This course is offered to all licensed cosmetologist, estheticians, & nail technicians who have been licensed by the state of South Carolina for less than 2 years. This course is offered when instructors are available.

The Methods Course is a 45 hour course of study providing instruction, demonstration, and training in lesson planning, lectures, school management, and record-keeping as well as safety & sanitation procedures. This course is offered to all licensed cosmetologists, estheticians, and nail technicians who are licensed by the state of South Carolina. This course is offered when instructors are available.

All courses are taught with supporting biology, chemistry, design theory, and business practice.
